Classic Canadian Cocktails
Basic Canadian Cocktail
Serve in a chilled cocktail glass.
1½-2 ounces Canadian whisky or flavored whisky
½-1 ounce triple sec or other orange-flavored
liqueur
½-1 ounce freshly squeezed lemon juice
1-1½ ounces powdered sugar or simple syrup
Dash of bitters
Orange slice or wedge
Combine the whisky, liqueur, lemon juice, sugar or
sugar syrup, and bitters in a shaker half-filled with
fresh ice; shake vigorously. Strain the mixed drink
into the prepared serving glass. Garnish with the
orange slice or wedge.
Basic Stonewall Cocktail
Serve in a chilled collins glass.
2-2½ ounces Canadian whisky or flavored whisky
½-1 ounce simple syrup or powdered sugar
Club soda, chilled
Place fresh ice in the prepared serving glass.
Add the whisky and simple syrup; stir gently. Add
enough club soda to fill the glass; do not stir—the
bubbles in the soda will mix the ingredients.
Basic Canadian Fruit-Flavored Fizz
Serve in a chilled collins glass.
1½-2 ounces Canadian whisky or flavored whisky
½-1 ounce blackberry, cherry, apple, or other
fruit-flavored brandy
2-2½ ounces sour mix
Club soda, chilled
Piece, slice, or wedge of complementary fresh
fruit
Combine the whisky, brandy, and sour mix in
shaker half-filled with fresh ice; shake vigorously.
Strain the mixed drink into the prepared serving
glass. Add enough club soda to fill the glass;
do not stir—the bubbles in the soda will mix the
ingredients. Garnish with the fresh fruit.
Basic Canadian Old-Fashioned
Serve in a chilled old-fashioned glass.
1½-2 ounces Canadian whisky or flavored whisky
½-1 teaspoon curaçao or other orange-flavored
liqueur
Dash of freshly squeezed lemon juice
Dash of bitters
Lemon and orange twists
Combine the whisky, liqueur, lemon juice, and
bitters in a shaker half-filled with fresh ice; shake
vigorously. Place fresh ice into the prepared serving
glass; strain the mixed drink into the glass. Garnish
with the lemon and orange twists.
